create alias gay -> yaoi

Gay is used in a lot of websites and is a very common word. I saw that lesbian was also aliased to Yuri so this is the equivalent to that. To my knowledge gay is mostly used for males, and some people are too used to using it from other sites.

If this is too ambiguous we could even do gay_(male/female) as usual with other aliases like this just so newer users can find what they want faster and not get frustrated.

I know that we use gay as a disambiguation wiki, but horny people online just won’t read a lot of the time.
I thought this was an idea worth discussing.

I think "gay" is a very common name for male homosexuals, so I don't see why it couldn't be aliased like lesbian is to yuri.

Because yuri is gay too, and yuri is far more popular than yaoi on danbooru.

And even if we 'limit' it to mostly males (i.e. ignoring yuri and assuming people enter it in search to search for principally male examples), it still potentially 'ambiguous' because we kinda have it split into yaoi and bara, plus a few related tags that people might still want to look at like bisexual (male) and futa_on_male.

Keeping it as a disambiguating wiki helps people fine-tune their searches and only inconveniences them a bit with one extra click.

For a time, the term gay was used as a synonym for anything related to homosexual men. For example, the term "gay bar" still often refers to a bar which caters primarily to a homosexual male clientele or is otherwise part of gay men's culture. By the end of the 20th century, however, the word "gay" was recommended by LGBT groups and style guides to describe all people attracted to members of the same sex,[3] while "lesbian" referred specifically to female homosexuals, and "gay men" referred exclusively to male homosexuals.

Gay men

I think the disambiguation page for gay is comprehensive enough. Yet I could get behind a gay_(male) alias since the G in lgbt stands for homosexual men. Otherwise we can't assert what everyone typing 'gay' is looking for.

I wouldn't be against an alias like that, or better, I don't care enough if this gets aliased or not. But a gay_(men) alias wouldn't be to bad either. At least for me it seems like the term "gay" is mostly used as a synonym for "homosexual men".

Bara is just a style of "manly man" homosexual art, though? Two bara guys going at each other is still "yaoi".

How many who look for lesbian/yuri stuff will type in "gay" though? I mean, I think it's pretty clear what "gay" refers to (man on man), but that's just my 2 cents.

It's not like clicking yaoi or bara or bisexual (male) is too much of an inconvenience.

Meanwhile autoaliasing to yaoi means they are potentially missing out on the other two.

(And I suppose people who are looking for yuri will loudly complain, though I don't have usage data for this.)

Just fyi, if gay_(female) becomes an alias then it will overtake all the other tags starting with "ga" in the autocomplete. The first tag being knocked out is garter straps.

I really don't see the point in such an alias given that "yuri" is a very well known term, and there's always the "lesbian" alias if someone doesn't know that.
I just can't imagine someone searching for lesbian anime porn and typing "gay" first instead of "yuri" or "lesbian".

In fact, of the top 10 searches for *gay*, only the 10th was relevant, and it was all done by a bot.

Fine, I've made the change, though I'm sick and tired of the autocomplete system literally dictating everything now instead of doing things logically we're now doing literally everything to appease making that broken system work instead of trying to make a better system.
