remove alias gay -> yaoi

I don't really know what else to say except:

In the context of Danbooru, someone searching for gay is almost certainly searching for gay male art...

I... don't think so? Maybe back then, but at least nowadays I don't think so. Proliferation of memes such as say gex (meme) probably helps, but we also have 3x as many yuri posts as we do yaoi posts, which makes the argument for yaoi being the default when searching "gay" pretty weak in my opinion.

Utility aliases such as gay_(male) and gay_(female) have problems with how they mess with autocomplete, also discussed in topic #18921, so I'll leave those out for now. I've just always found this alias kind of random and out of place.

mixed feelings. i get and agree with the argument that "gay" refers to all kinds of homosexuality, but i get the impression that in common speech, "gay" still refers to gay men specifically. i guess it depends on whether danbooru wants to be geared more towards a total layman (in which case the alias should probably stand), or someone who's more tuned-in so to speak (in which case the alias is wrong).

Presumably, if the tag is unaliased it will also be deprecated.

i think if someone doesn't know we call it yaoi they probably have no idea what a deprecated tag means so we're just going to have a lot of untagged gay sex

Some other boorus, particularly the popular rule34.xxx, still use gay as a tag to refer specifically to male/male content, so I don't really think this is a good idea.

Why should we even care about a site that has both 1girl and 1girls because they're completely incapable at doing anything right?

I agree with this, gay is now referring to all kinds of homosexual relationships. It is not quite right to keep it as just male/male relationships. I'd support the deprecation of gay and the use of yuri and yaoi in place which will make for a better experience.

Edit: Now that I think about it, It is a bit unfair to assume people would know what yuri or yaoi means. Isn't it possible to have something such as a meta page show up for searches of gay, or as a temporary solution just alias both yuri and yaoi into gay?

Because a lot of people use that site and also come here, and are going to be confused when searching "gay" doesn't give them dudes fucking.

In common vernacular if you don't specify most people assume you're talking about men, the fact that other booru sites use gay as their yaoi tag is a reflection of that real-world fact.

Edit: We already have lesbian as a utility alias for yuri, I don't see what purpose unaliasing gay serves, especially if you aren't going to replace it with gay_(male). More people probably call it gay than yaoi.

Looking up yaoi and rating:explicit does that already well enough

As a category in pornography, I don't know of any situation where "gay" refers to homosexuality between women. Just open PornHub and there are four main categories: "straight" (m/f), "lesbian" (f/f), "gay" (m/m), and "trans."

If a guy told me right then and there that he liked gay porn, I wouldn't wonder if he was aroused by two women or perhaps two men.

Many tags derive their names from the pornography category, not from their identity. Similarly, the tag "bisexual_male" doesn't necessarily mean a man who is aroused by both women and men, but rather one who interacts with both men and women in a given image (even if, for example, he's a rape victim (post #5060699)).
