Artist's commentary
I get a lot of questions about drawing animal personifications, so I wanted to provide a few examples along with a tutorial.
Personification is more than just adding an animal's ears and tail to a character; for a much more consistent design, it is best to
1) Prepare photos of the animal to be personified
2) Organize the animal's traits and characteristics and then apply them to the design as appropriate
If you follow this approach, you can capture the feel of an animal in a much more natural way.
The above content is a brief summary of part of the tutorial, and the more detailed approach to personification is covered in the tutorial below.
Each level of the process will be explained on a step-by-step basis, from covering basic techniques such as anthro feature proportions to more detailed features such as various animal species' depictions.
