Turtle Soup is a situational reasoning game originated from the Japanese forum 2ch, also known as a "lateral thinking puzzle" or "situational riddle." The core gameplay involves a puzzle master (soup maker) presenting a seemingly bizarre and incomprehensible event (called the "soup surface"), while participants (soup drinkers) need to gradually deduce the complete truth behind the event (called the "soup base") through continuous questioning. For each question, the puzzle master can only answer with "yes," "no," or "irrelevant," and players must reconstruct the entire story with limited information.
The name of the game came from the "Turtle Soup" riddle- It goes that a man was forced to eat his companion's flesh during a shipwreck, and when he later drank real turtle soup in a restaurant, he realized the truth of what happened, leading to his mental breakdown and suicide.
