9th Infantry Division, also known as the White Horse Division. Originally a hastily formed unit for the Korean War, it participated in the defense of Hill 395 against the People's Volunteer Army for which it gained its epithet. It was then deployed in Vietnam, mostly operating in the Ninh Hòa area which stayed relatively clean of the massacres perpetrated further north in the Quảng Ngãi and Quảng Nam region. Finally, after Korea ended its participation in the Vietnam War in 1973, the White Horse Division would participate in the 12-12 incident in 1979, where its unit commander Roh Tae-woo would lead the division to coup the capital.
