Back when children's animated movies didn't treat children like, well, children.

Oh, all those memories are coming back.
The age of childrens movies were people and animals actually died.

Since Reisen talked about the latest moon fashion. Sure it was in the seventies but...

You know, this might just give Reisen more confidence...if it doesn't utterly traumatize her or make her deathly afraid of Tewi.

Reisen already has PTSD. Looks like Eirin's going to have to increase Reisen's meds again.

Wasn't it marketed at children because cultural standards of the time dictated that animation was for children?

I felt need for (potentially needless) nitpicking about the translation. Result is abomination of translator's note. In short I wish to clarify that finnish title is not literal translation of "watership down" but instead given title meaning "Woodland Critters" "Folk of the Grass-Forest" etc.

I recall watching Watership Down but I also remember another animation about cats (don't know the title) being ripped apart, their intestines flood out, etc.

Let's not forget The Plague Dogs in all of this. Also All Dogs Go To Heaven (one of my favorite films) was a dark kids film.

Wow, I hadn't heard of any of these films. Probably weren't released or didn't fare well in my country. I'll watch them with my niece sometime.

I don't know if I did watch "Watership Down" when I was a child, but I certainly remember watching "The Animals of Farthing Wood". That was pretty harsh series too, I think the most traumatizing scenery was to see one of the rabbits dead, stabbed by thornbush and bleeding blood.

Good call outs both. All Dogs Go To Heaven depresses the hell out of me even thinking about it, though not because of the movie exactly. Read on if you want your day ruined...

Judith Barsi, the 10 year old who who voiced Anne-Marine, had her crazy alcoholic father go in one night, shoot her in the head, shoot her mother in the chest, burn both bodies, and then shoot himself when he was done.

Felidae, I think it's from Germany or something. The plot's something of a murder mystery about some cat that going around killing other cats? Not sure only saw a review on YouTube.

    Oh? Which movie?
    Oi! Bunnies!
I went and rented a movie and thought we could all watch it together.
As far as I understand, it's an animated film about rabbits.
Watership Down (The Finnish title translates literally to "Folk/people of the Grassy Forest/Grassforest".)
