I'd imagine you don't really have to, especially if you're just taking a few leisurely shots on a range. Being on a battlefield where you might have to adjust aim without repositioning your feet or when firing off hundreds of arrows in practice would be another story.

Depends on the individual/stance/type of bow. For the "perfect" stance with a high tension bow, yes or you might hurt yourself. For a casual stance with a low tension bow, no (unless you screw things up and hurt yourself anyway).
