He DID bail from Pixiv, though. He uploaded this, and then shortly thereafter deleted his account and website. Damn shame...

[edit] Seems like it might have something to do with some much more flagrant tracing than the example given.

Either this is the death of him, or all parties involved manage to settle it...

EDIT: Can you find any similar works to any of s-syogo's drawings here on Danbooru?

also danbooru makes a good time capsule should an artist ever bail from the internet.

Don't say that with too much conviction. Chikage had everything on here that was an image of his pulled less then a week ago, and they are -gone- completely. So s-syogo might pull this too. Might want to start making a private collection if you want his stuff.

Well, something's had to happen that he'd suddenly want to delete everything and have them maybe all pulled...

P.S. Sure, an artist can always come and request Danbooru removes something, but considering the way s-syogo left, maybe he isn't looking back to tie up loose ends.

I was gone for a week, and several of my favourite artists have left the Internet and us behind? ...excuse me, I think I just heard my heart shattering into many pieces.

It must be my music-mind taking over, but I don't understand why tracing would be such a big issue as to wipe all of your work off the face of the Internet like that. Is adaptation of existing ideas just not allowed? As far as I know none of these drawings are being put forward for profit either...

Oh my god. I found this artist just a couple of days ago and I was enamored with this style. And now it's gone for good. Wow.

On a darker note, s-syogo was also where I got my bdsm fix.

I don't understand. Can someone explain what tracing means? Is it when an artist makes a picture parodying another? and why would that cause him to bail?

The direct meaning of "tracing" is to, say, overlay a piece of paper over an image in order copy it with your pen.

Essentially the majority views it as plagiarism, copying another's work because you lack talent yourself. In reality many artists get their start copying other works to establish style and technique, but they don't tend to publish it.

The majority view is garbage. As a composer I could just as easily base an entire piece off of a Bach cantata and quote it extensively and still be able to be hailed for what I adapt it into.-

    That's innovation.
We're talking direct copying and claiming, with minimum or (more often) no original adaptations made.

This pic, in and of itself, is (for lack of a better word) a remix of another pic-linked above.
It's a clear example of using your own talent to create a piece of work based off of/inspired by somebody's else's (what you were talking about) vs. simply copying said work and claiming it as your own.

At any rate, I'm just wondering, did anybody who can read Japanese get a chance to, at least, check the commentary he put on this pic before he dismantled it? ..if there was any commentary, at all.

Take these images as an example:

This isn't "I made my song by borrowing bits of melody," this is "I ripped a whole song off the CD, and then dubbed in my voice over the name of the title character of the song, and sold it as my own." The way tracings often work, in spite of the name, they just straight-up take the original image, mirror flip it and maybe resize or crop it a little, change the hair color and add accessories or a hat (if Touhou), and call it your own work. The mirror flip and resizes are done SPECIFICALLY to mask the photoshopping from a computer check, so these people are taking specific steps to hide what work they used as "reference".

Shit, didn't even notice that happen. That really sucks, Chikage's work was so awesome. Wonder why he did that.

    And now s-syogo, too...
