With drooping arms like that? Nah.
Sometimes the agelessness of the Kanmusus could be a double edged sword, but in this case, this Admiral either got killed (by another human) or did suicide; look at the point just below the cap and you'll see a hole on the side of his skull that's the usual spot to stick the gun for suicide. My guess is the Admiral offed himself, when the Abyssals attacked the base. Fumizuki is on sortie that time, and thus saved from the attack.

That's really interesting even if its heart-breaking.

Why is Fumizuki so adorable that she makes this image more cute than creepy/sad?

Deserves to be in the "Tragedy of a long life" pool.
