One of the USB ports on my computer is all screwed up and thinks that something is constantly being inserted and removed. I eventually gave up trying to solve the problem by disabling the sound that it makes when a USB port has something inserted or removed (my investigations found that it wasn't keeping track of this phantom device in the USB device history)
