We're successful as much for our complex social structures and the specialization and building off past successes that enables as we are tool use. In a way, complex social structures are a tool.

She didn't use the stick to get the banana down, she used The Mafia. The stick was merely a small part of the larger (social) technological construct that is La Famiglia.
