I said this in the child post, but a chicken pot pie would have worked just fine, but that wouldn't fit the gag. They just focus on the most shocking/strangest foods people from a region eat, so clearly, the way to recover all the Japanese ships must be through chilled fish semen.

If anything Ido choose the most stereotypical food a country has. Like Pastaaa~ for Italian ships.

Now for Nelson, Black Tea or Fish and Chips should do the job, but Ido also like to do 'British foods are awful' gag. SO welp, jellied ell there is.

Black pudding could work too. Some people find animal blood yucky.

Try salt and vinegar too. These things should work.

That's more of a western / Abrahamic religions thing.

Premodern Japanese did not really eat meat or any part of an animal.

On the other hand, Shintoism place heavy emphasis on symbolic purity and avoidance of defilement. Blood is considered heavily "tainted" and symbolic of death. Many folks would avoid it like the plague... Except maybe for the rural folks who regularly deal with wildlife, like people up north in Hokkaido even Gunma.
