Nasty things, needed because the boar are even nastier. They're barbed like that so the boar can't pull itself up the spear to gore whoever's speared it. Do not fuck with wild boar lightly. Hell, even wolves are cautious about taking the fuckers on.

Also worth remembering, boars are omnivores. If they kill you, they'll be more than happy to eat you too.
