The drive belt idles when it starts up, you see. It's fine once the rotation stabilizes, though. I figured I'd buy a mainspring and build a tensioner later.
The clunking noise is the sound of the wooden fan blades rotating. I'm still an amateur at building electronic circuits, so I ultimately depend on the arduino for all sensor-related stuff. (^^;)
