The only reader-added tag as yet is "Dr. Kogasa".

It's a wonder and mystery how people keep wrecking their laptop hinges so often.

Never ever happened to my laptops. Not even cheapass laptops with fragile plastic hinges.

It's happened to my nephew whose cheap laptop (cost around $350, Acer) had one hinge break when opening it. The hinge split apart at the seam, and that corner of the display frame would pull away when you opened it. That thing never left the desk.

Despite that the hinge was still secured to the body of the laptop, but it was dead because because some cables were routed through that area and presumably were broke/dislodged.

Acer laptops are the worst ,My school used to have those in computer labs cuz they were cheap.

many laptops have very fragile hinges these days. They can easily break within months or by an accidental mishandling. I remember seeing a few laptop teardown videos, it seems laptop manufacturers are cutting even more corners when it comes to build quality these days.

Well, I guess I should just check its condition for now...
    I've mostly finished them off...
    It Seemed Well Used
Kogasa-san has been charged by Papa-gasa with repairing a PC...
Up to now, I've bought junk items and never really succeeded in fixing them...
    What do I do...?
Even if this is a family item, it'd be awkward in several senses if I broke it...
Both hinges are wrecked and rattly.
.... I get the feeling this had problems before the power source...
