For the 2hu fans, this is about Pokemon TCG Pocket. The Misty Card used in the first set allows you to get any number of Water Energy, depending on how many coin flips come up heads in a row.

This can allow you to fire off attacks that would normally take several turns to build up right from the start. Particularly egregious users are Articuno EX (who can do 80 damage to your main defender, and 10 to every other member of your party), Lapras (who can do 100 damage straight up if you have 4 energy on it,) and Starmie EX (Who can do enough damage to knock out basically any pokemon on the second turn).

For starters, as soon as you get the shop tickets for it, buy so you have 2 of most of the shop cards. The ones you can ignore are the Hand Scope and the Pokedex one - you really can't afford to have pure information cards in such a tight format, and the others all have pretty good utility, including Professor Oak. The only utility those two have is telling you a little more information about whether you should use a certain other utility card or not... which is highly likely to end up meaningless in the end, as there's pretty clear circumstances to use each of them regardless.

Pretty much every single deck worth running will have two Oaks, and two Poké Ball cards, as these are 90% of your card draw power right now. X speed helps you get a pokemon off the front lines, Potions keep pokemon alive longer, and Red Cards are hilarious when your opponent is just about to start popping off with the ten cards in their hand.

Currently, I have three main sets I bounce between:
My personal favourite, and also probably the weakest the way I run it, is Dragovee. That's Dragonite Line, and Eevee with Jolteon and Vaporeon cards in the deck. Dragons don't have any energy colour unique to them, and instead require at least two energy of different colours (not including colourless) to work. For the only dragon we have, that's water and lightning, and I bet you can guess where this deck came from from there. But Dragonite out on the field is an absolute monster - 200 damage distributed randomly among the enemy's front and back line. It will almost always score a kill just by being used, and can wreak complete havoc over the field.

Mewtwo EX - pretty much the most meta option right now. 2 copies of Mewtwo EX, Two copies of the gardevoir line, no other pokemon for now. They can both be gotten from the Mewtwo pack, so this deck's core is easy to build. Once you get Gardevoir up, you can give Mewtwo EX 2 Psychic energy per turn between your standard energy and your ability, and this basically allows you to use the 150 power attack freely. Absolutely degenerate strat... highly recommended.

Pikachu EX - recommend building your way up to this for the Lapras event that's going on. 2 Copies of Pikachu EX, A zapdos ex if you have it, and then a couple of electric-types to taste, like:
    - Tynamo is basically the glass cannon of basic pokemon, being the frailest and having the strongest attack. It's great particularly in the Lapras event for it's ability to OHKO Staryu with only 1 electric energy, which can stop a starmie before it starts,
    - Electrode can retreat for free, making it a very safe tank.
    - Zebstrika can chase any pokemon your opponent tries to hide on the back line.
Pikachu EX gets stronger depending on the number of Electric pokemon on your back bench, and can be dishing out the same damage as Starmie Ex on turn 2, without the need to evolve. Largely pull from the Pikachu pack for this.

These two are two of the easiest EXs to get, because the pack mascots have multiple variants that you can find at once, making them easier to find than normal EXs for the most part (including the ultra-rare crown versions, which can spawn in any pack), and neither requires any cards to evolve into them.

Another card you should look for is Weezing, which you can find in the mewtwo packs. It can run in basically any deck, because you don't actually have to give it any energy it can use - instead, you can use it's ability to poison the opponent, a steady 10 damage per either player's turn until they switch out. A great tanking pokemon, and even better with Koga as support.

But really, the general rule of thumb is that the reference decks are a nice little starter list of some highlight pokemon to look out for. Any highlight card or EX card you get, I recommend googling some decks that use it and see what you find.

Actually, the fact that i mentioned Mewtwo EX + gardevoir was the most meta option in the game?

Look at the cards on Youmu's field. That's definitely two ralts cards, and two mewtwo exs.

    Even Youmu-kun's playing Mewtwo decks!
