A Man's Willpower
This sword with its chipped end is a fragment of sincerity I left behind that day. No matter how badly I'm hurt, no matter how much blood I shed, there ain't nothing to fear. If it's a wound I received for my comrades, then I'm proud of it.
But humans can't endure the wounds they receive in their hearts; those are far worse than cuts from any sword. The many wounds I suffered in my heart gradually eroded my body, eventually entangling my legs and finally stopping me from recklessly rushing ahead as I had always done.
This is it. Let's end it. Let's be defeated here.
But just as I was about to fall, something caught me. Yeah, it was this broken sword that supported me. It's not clear if the sword supported me, or if I supported the sword. Either way, that's how I survived that day. I left those guys behind.
Yeah, I'm a shameless member of the Shinsengumi. There ain't no point in feeling regret now since I've got nothing left to lose. I'm just going to cry my heart out by shouting my sincerity. Our makoto.
That's my pride...my pride as a man.
