kuznetsov-class aircraft carrier

A class of three aircraft carriers built in the later days of the Soviet Union. Originally two were planned, which only one, the Admiral Kuznetsov, was completed for Soviet navy service.

The second ship, later known as Liaoning, was left unfinished in Ukraine after the fall of USSR until sold to China under a guise for a floating casino in 1998, and were then later rebuilt as a functional carrier. The third ship, Shandong, is a reverse-engineered version of the ship that were laid down in 2015 and completed in 2019.

Currently, all three ships of the class are currently in service. One with the Russian Navy and two with the People's Liberation Army Navy.

This is a catchall tag for the ship class. If the individual ship can be identified, then the tag for each ship should be applied accordingly.

The following tags implicate this tag: admiral_kuznetsov_(aircraft_carrier), liaoning_(aircraft_carrier), and shandong_(aircraft_carrier) (learn more).
