Honestly I think the refractory period is a bit of a blessing and a curse. I mean, if we DIDN'T have it we'd be doing it ALL the time. Not everyone has that kind of time dude.
What if you've got errands to run? Maybe you need a few minutes of clarity to remember to do the dishes or go to work or even just drink water.

No, really, I do understand that. It's why I'm glad I'm not equipped like the guy in post #2881649 — I'd probably fuck myself to death.
