Agreed, the guy was a huge part of the ninja craze back in the 80s, and Ninja Gaiden was the quintessential ninja game of the time, having huge success on the original NES spanning 3 titles on the system, and a revered Arcade cabinet.
I suppose the problem is self-satisfying in a way, considering that. There aren't a lot of lady characters represented because there aren't a lot of lady characters represented. So many of the big names are male or were originally famous for their male lead.
I think they've tried to be fair in the past though. They got all the big name female leads, and they've made some compromises. I remember I was honestly surprised when they added Bayonetta considering her game was mature with high sexual themes. Considering that fact, I think it's a wishy-washy decision to reject Mai just because she has cleavage, but they have their reasons.
And even if they did chose a female from DoA, the better choice would have been Hitomi anyway. At least if they keep her default gi. Although she’ll pretty much be a female Ryu...only chunky(depending on the model they use)
It’s about time they bring in some(moar) thicc girls.
