Caliber is the internal diameter of the barrel, as well as the bullet it fires. It's measured in inches, 50 caliber means the barrel's diameter is half an inch. It's more accurately written as .50 Caliber, but the decimal is often omitted in casual speech.

Edit: I realized that what I said doesn't make any sense here, so, I looked it up. The caliber here is actually referring to the barrel's length. Which would be 14cm × 50 = 700cm long.
