As a Zulu i can see this picture not as an insult but the reality of he warfare raged by my ancestors in the victorian era.

a testament of the strength of my people it was a loss for us
but it showed we were a power to be respected

It was a pity that Shaka kaSenzangakhona turned out in the end to be an insane ruler that wasted all the gains he got. If he kept himself together he could have forged an impressive empire.

The Zulus were one of the greatest military forces in Africa at the time. Their prowess in battle was impressive, as was their discipline.

This worked until Mr. Maxim had an idea. Machineguns placed in the right positions combined with barbed wire made this strategy a bloody desaster from Hill 174 to the Chemine des Dames.
