I've always wondered about the kitsune ever since I learned that Ran is actually the shinigami possessing said kitsune.
Really hope it was a mutual thing they agreed on since I'd feel bad for her otherwise.

I read Yuuma's dialogue in TH19 as implying there's basically no difference between the two of them and it seems Ran Yakumo was even just Ran before. Except maybe strength, since Yuuma does grouch a little about Ran Yakumo being weaker than her old friend.

Wait, Ran was even stronger before she became a shikigami?

She only really calls Ran weak if Ran looses their fight, so i'm pretty sure it's just her rubbing in her victory.

Ran also show familiarity with Yuuma on a personal level, not that she just remembers Yuuma, not to mention tsukasa's comment "Ohoho, you truly are a fox as well."
Ran isn't just Shiki software on Beast hardware, it's more like she's a cyborg, a Beast augmented by a Shikigami. Which fits with Zun's comment about the Shikigami and Beast being one and the same.

Well Ran is just a kyuubi. Theres still further growth foe kitsune after that. Its possible her status as a shikigami is arresting further development.
