It's always been a really bad idea, all the way back to the original mythology.
...but not necessarily for the reason you think. There's nothing about the food itself that makes eating it a bad idea, and the idea that there is is a modern invention. Rather, the issue was one of guest-host etiquette: eating the fae's food before being acknowledged as a guest, or eating more than was offered/required, was a transgression against hospitality laws of that day and age, placing the transgressor into a debt of obligation to the fae -- and that debt had a doozy of an interest rate! As long as you don't make those mistakes, you're fine on that front.
Alanis, killed by a fairy named Leaf (on other fronts, though....)
So, since I never played Black Souls. Though looking at the images and characters presented. Is the fairy referring to Red Hood when it is talking to Ruby?

Basically yeah.
Leaf...did some terrible things to Red Hood. Leaf changed Red Hood's story to be that of an emotionless girl who was abused and raped by her grandfather for years before Red Hood got the Wolf to eat him. She killed her grandmother. Her mother(Elizabeth Bathory) hates her, denies her birth, and tries to kill her. Santa Claus tries to kill her. She was made to be sexually inept to the point she only feels pleasure with animals. And the one time she finds happiness with a man and tries to live a happy life, she dies within a year because Leaf cut her lifespan.
