I know this was deleted, got labelled poor quality and got -4 on score but is there actually anything good about this picture at all or is it just all bad and should be purged from the site for good?

Images normally don't get purged, only if they break the rules. We have a lot of very very poor quality images that we don't delete.

Images don't get expunged unless they're illegal or borderline illegal.

This post isn't deleted yet, but it doesn't have the poor quality problem or the out of topic style that caused the previous two to be deleted. What's going on here?

It was uploaded 23 minutes ago, chill.

post #4917163 is a duplicate. Dupes don't get approved very often.

I knew that but I have seen a looot of dupes with different sides for the source (pixiv, Twitter etc) so I thought that was a okay thing to do, specially since the artist re-uploaded it himself and the old source leads to an inactive account. Don't think it would have hurt anyone to approve that.

Most dupes you see are from inferior versions being uploaded on Twitter and a superior version being posted later to pixiv, for example. And it is a bit of a pain at the moment, but fixes are being worked on for it. In the meantime, instead of uploading inferior/identical quality images, it's generally better to just leave a comment on the image we have with the other source.

Uploading is a trial and error process. Don't get scared, it's like that for everyone. It's easy to get a grasp of what's acceptable quality once you get going.

Will do.

Not scared of posts getting deleted but I do feel sometimes it's like Russian roulette which gets approved and which gets the bullet. Like I don't see why post #4914978 got labelled poor quality when I have seen worse get accepted already. Well your site, your rules.

Where did I go wrong this time?

It's very amateurish. While the artist had a lot of good ideas in mind with the composition, the execution could be better.

  • Insufficient shading or poor lighting in many places while not being a chibi-piece, kind of like earlier AdventureQuest art. It's kind of flat and lacking detail, except for the wands.
    • Poor linework for the type of piece they were going for
  • The small amount of light coming in through the trees looks great in some places and bad in others, maybe due to not being fuzzy enough or put in the wrong placs
  • Cure Scarlet and Cure Flora's hair are shining in a part that's covered by shadow. Same with some gemstones. It's fine on Cure Mermaid because it's in the sunlight.
  • The background is pretty but the painting is messy and may be mixing in some poor use of gaussian blurs here and there
  • The glass table in the foreground looks super lazy, and there was a good attempt with the lighting on it that is still very amateurish
  • Somewhat poor drop shadows on the wands
  • I can understand how someone might find it cute or interesting, but it's not very cute.

The hands and arms are pretty bad: her left hand (top) is kinda narrow and looks too long, her right hand  (bottom) looks way too small and just bad overall. Her arms are also too thin, especially when compared to the thighs. The rest is kinda meh.

Note: “There’s worse art accepted” is never a good argument on Danbooru and using it will only increase your chances of getting ignored. ;) If you find posts that you think are bad, flag them for review.
