Glove length

What would be the distinction between the two? elbow gloves go up the elbow and anything beyond that is opera gloves?

From looking a bit online it'd suggest the OP is making an error on what they're calling "elbow gloves" and the distinction between elbow gloves is closer to our current tagging relationship between over-kneehighs and thighhighs. The length currently labeled by the OP as elbow gloves appear to be called things like 8-button length, forearm length, below elbow length, or three-quarters length gloves. Elbow or elbow length gloves are apparently 12-button length gloves that reach and cover the elbow or just above it. I think the gloves most of the Sailor Scouts in Sailor Moon are an example of this length (ex: post #11361849). The "opera glove" classification apparently starts at the 12-button length and covers lengths from there and above. "Classic" opera gloves are 16-button or 16 inch length (from the wrist) and stop around the mid-bicep.

I'm actually godawful at visualizing measurements in units, so my best frame of reference is treating it like legwear lengths.

My spatial awareness aside, "before elbow" and "after elbow" strike me as worthwhile separations. Knees and elbows are easy enough to identify for determining that distinction.

Has anyone actually looked at the elbow gloves tag here? It's already the tag for over-the-elbow, mid-bicep length gloves. That's what the vast majority of it is. We're talking about manually adding a new tag to probably a few hundred thousand posts.

The example image in the wiki was only added a few months ago and it's misleading, it's not how the tag is typically used. It's supposed to be for elbow length or greater, not less than elbow length.

If you want a tag for at-the-elbow gloves or slightly below, you'd be better off unaliasing long gloves -> elbow gloves for it.

I'd much rather have under-elbow gloves than have to tag over-elbow gloves on everything past the elbow, which would probably be 350k posts at least.

Anyway, the name over-elbow gloves suggests it would be the same thing as over-kneehighs vs thighhighs, where it would be used for slightly past the elbow rather than mid-bicep. If that were the case it would be much less work, but still confusing because over-elbow gloves would be shorter than elbow gloves.
