  • Inktober 52 2021 - Week 4 - ‘Ancient’

I rather love the new fossil Pokémon. At first, they looked rally odd from the leaked images, not like normal Pokémon; but once the gimmick of a lazy scientist mismatching fossils came about…oh boy oh boy. I do love me some horrible ‘failed’ test subject creatures.

I’ve had a long-standing theory that fossil Pokémon up until this set always had rock in their typing because of contamination during the ‘resurrection’ process. The very rock the fossil was contained in what affecting the Pokémon’s typing once it’s alive. Meaning the Pokémon we see ‘resurrected’ were not accurate representations of ancient Pokémon.

Now with the Galar trio, they are clearly the head fossils of an electric raptor, and water fish Pokémon, mixed with the behinds of a stegosaurus dragon and plesiosaur ice Pokémon. But our careless scientist never spots that (not even when the head comes in upside down) and she even makes fake Pokédex entries about how they lived and inevitably went extinct based on these monstrosities.

They are all utterly fantastic, but I have a soft spot for Arctozolt because it looked a lot like how I felt last year when I had a nasty chest infection and was playing Pokémon to keep me sane when awake. Arctozolt looke dlike my pain. I called it ‘suffering’.
