I just read up on this earlier today. The Control Demon (Makima) is themed after Conquest, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (though some interpretations use pestilence instead, since conquest is so similar to war).

Tldr Someone posted on Twitter that Conquest could have turned good like Nolan had he meet people who were kind and treated him like a real person unlike his fellow Viltrumites who treat him like a dangerous animal. Thus it led to fan art of Conquest if it was him and not Nolan who came to Earth first and love his new life and called himself Carl. Even one of the artist for the comic confirmed Carl/Kindquest is canon in another universe.
