I recently put a call out on tumblr for critique and feedback for my work- people wrote back with some great insights and pointed out a few blindspots I didn't realize I had!

One of the topics that came up more than once was that my female body-types and designs were not as varied or strong as their male equivalents. Which was a wake up call, since I care deeply about issues of representation in design.

And I drew my favorite Air Pirate captain: Dola from Laputa/Castle In The Sky!
She's just such a killer design and Miyazaki does an amazing job of varying his female cast members and giving each character nuance and dignity.
