Not the real world (New Donk City), and he's been there before - where do you think the construction site in Donkey Kong was? Certainly not any skyscrapers being built in the Mushroom Kingdom.

I just find it offputting that all the people look like normal real world people while Mario is all cartoony.

All the other humans of the series like Peach, Daisy, Wario and all the warioware guys look cartoony. What's up with the new donk weirdos?
