Haters art gives me a headache. I love his art style, and how sexy he makes the Touhou girls, including their outfits. On the other hand, I hate his demented ideas for them, and their whorish personality's. Which is ironic, since I'm all for slutty Touhous, but every sex scene this guy does just makes me feel bad. I should try and understand his fetish, maybe it'll help me like things like this more.

Agreed. I'm fine with their portrayal as independent women so long as their actions earn both parties happiness rather than the stressful state it puts them in. I like the art where their interactions with each other – and the select-few innocent men that engage with them – are portrayed sympathetically. This one is a shining example if you don't count Koishi (but that's just her not having any context in-universe).

Really, if I saw Youmu doing this to herself, I would just embrace her with sincerity. Hell, I'd help her out with her financial situation if I could.

    Basic description of Hater's works

Great art but really depressing or fucked up in actual context

    On Yuyuko's question

    Apparently whenever you ate

Art seems to be his outlet. From what I understand, he tends to do his most disturbing pieces at his most depressed, and lighter pieces when he is feeling better.

Channeling your negative feelings into art that touches on depressing subjects is probably one of the least destructive coping mechanisms out there. Bottling it all up so no one has to see it and only drawing happy things that your fandom "wants" to see? That's destructive.

I'm sorry, but with the bajillion people out there who have no problem drawing the rape, violence, and corruption of humanoid life for profit and/or pleasure, it never crosses your mind that Hater is simply one of them? Just someone with a fetish for turning women into sluts?

I just said there's nothing wrong or unhealthy with making depressing art in order to vent, I didn't necessarily say that that's what Hater is doing. I don't know him, and I can't read minds. But for what it's worth, I think a lot of these images have a level of seriousness to them that you wouldn't see if the artist just meant for it to be "sexy".

I could turn your argument back around on you: why are you so aggressively against even the implication that Hater's doing this for any reason other than to get his rocks off?

Gee Yuyuko your endless hunger has drove your worker to self destruction to satisfy your demand.

Be thankful Youmu didn't decide to seize the means of production and overthrow the royalty in workers revolution.

Seems to be a tragedyfag mentality. If someone or something they love is suffering immense amounts, they're closer-to-earth, humanized, and poetic. It feels like a mini sister-trope to True Art Is Angsty.

Its ok to hate art if it makes you feel awful while looking at it. So it is ok to dislike haters depiction of touhou.

Not to necrobump, but I need to discuss these things. I don’t mind if you downvote me, but at least let me know what you think.

I agree. Everything has nuance. I think he’s hurt and flawed and this art is how he copes. I’d like to believe that, in spite of what he draws, he has a heart.

I’m not sure Hater is a malicious person, mostly it is a ‘bully coping mechanism’. Everyone knows Hater is depressed and angsty, I think he fantasizes about degrading others to uplift himself.

The silver lining is: though he is drawing Touhou characters being raped & prostituted, he - I assume and hope - doesn’t harm people IRL. It’s not the healthiest coping mechanism, but it is FAR healthier than some assholes you see in the street.
I respect that Hater doesn't seem to be a sociopath (like a lot of porn artists, maybe).

It’s easier to understand peoples motivations when you picture them as just children. Some kids are senselessly cruel. Some kids lash out at others because of their own negative emotions. Hater lashes out at Touhou characters… and it’s distressing, but fictional. At least he doesn’t seem senselessly cruel.

I agree with this too, I don’t understand why that’s a tough pill.
Hater is incredibly skilled but I dislike his art because he draws cruelty for the sake of self-indulgence. I accept his coping mechanisms, they’re understandable. You should accept that it reasonably makes me distressed. I don’t enjoy being around people like Hater, but still, I empathize and don’t hate him.

I don’t respect Hater entirely but it’s important to understand peoples psyche, and I don’t think that Hater is evil or sociopathic.

If you don't mind downvotes then why did you delete all of your other poorly received comments? Why are you so obsessed with this? If you don't like his art then just add his tag to your blacklist instead of necroing old posts with essays trying to psychoanalyze someone you've never met and never will.

No one needs to accept anything about how his art makes you feel, because no one asked and no one cares. Just blacklist it and move on.

It sounds like you’re gradually starting to understand (even if most won’t see it because you keep deleting your comments), but you’re not quite there yet.

I don’t believe it’s productive to psychoanalyze artists. Unless they tell us themselves, we have no way of knowing whether their personal issues have anything to do with what they draw. Artists don’t need some deep reason to draw rape porn or other controversial content. They could be completely well-adjusted and draw it simply because they like it. If that doesn’t make sense to you, consider that there are well-adjusted people that like gory horror movies or realistic first-person shooters. Would we expect them to enjoy violence in real life just because they enjoy it in fiction?

It’s perfectly fine to dislike and even be distressed by this kind of art, but necrobumping these posts to discuss your feelings benefits no one. We are not a therapy group and can’t do anything to help you other than suggest you avoid images like this if they cause you pain. Blacklist the tags you don’t want to see, and even the artist if necessary (though it sounds like you’d be okay with his less dark works).

Edit: Sniped by blindVigil, who said almost everything I did, but more concisely.

I have to be honest. I’m unbelievably sensitive, also OCD or whatever, so I ruminate and obsess until it culminates as devastating panic attacks. Blah blah blah. I’m so sorry, it’s aggravating to see me stupidly discuss the ethics of random porn artists, necrobumping my anxious fixations, but it does benefit me. I imagine this is no worse than “I want Patchoulis ass on my face” comments?

You can ignore me and my words the same way I blacklist things that make me uncomfortable. But, the very existence of these artworks leaves me hyper-vigilant, I NEED to somewhere discuss and understand things that discomfort me, and it means everything you care to reply constructively. It really fucking helps.

I am wrong sometimes… often, maybe. I deleted those comments because they were visceral, senseless, provoked by hyper-emotionality. Not helpful, not rational.
My ‘morals’ lack nuance, which you see that already, but sometimes I'm blindsided, you know? I’ve been temperamental, but I’m trying not to - can you empathize?

Therapy is pricy and time-consuming and self-centered. I don't rant to indulge in my woes, I want to understand how others perceive the sky. To be impartial to new, different perspectives, and this anime pseudo porn imageboard has a lot of those.

I’m confused and anxious but I’m not defensive. I actually want to get along, partially because I’m unable to hide from society then beat meat to cope.
And, yes, nobody asked. I hope my emotionality didn’t kill anyone’s boner.
