Inspired by the Sherman tanks left behind on Saipan, and the general tendency of life to move on.

The commentary mentions Shermans as inspiration, but this is not one! Removing tag.

Oddly, only a month ago, I was horrified to read in the memoirs of a British [ Manx, actually ] academic who was in the Navy during that war, Frank Kermode, Not Entitled ( title references pay stoppages for ratings in the Navy... ), that :

My old comrades were charged with taking the ship back to America. It appeared that the Americans were celebrating the end of the war by ordering the destruction of military moveables like aircraft, jeeps and trucks ( anxious, it was said to sustain demand rather than create a slump in the automobile factories ). Vast numbers of planes and trucks and other vehicles were dumped into the Pacific. Drivers would take their vehicles down wooden piers and jump out just as the trucks or jeeps toppled over into deep water.

    .

Apart from the pollution, and the wicked wanton waste of gear that had many more years of life, and the lack of... 'spareness', whatever is the economic term for utilizing resources as carefully as possible; the sheer wanton stupidity is Kolossal...

He said "Sherman tanks left behind on Saipan". His inspiration was about some tanks left behind on Saipan. He did not have to draw specifically a Sherman.

Someone, who doesn't know his tanks, tagged this post "Sherman" presumably because of the commentary. The picture doesn't show one. I removed the tag.

    That's all!
