Yes. Stalkers from Dead Space 2 was hinted by the devs to be composed at least partially, with animals. Anything with that has biomass can be affected by the marker. More intelligent lifeforms can resist its influence and develop psychosis as the marker attempts to mentally break them. Less intelligent life forms will be controlled, mutated, then finally absorbed in the convergence event.

The dogs on Dead Space 3 also turned into Lurker equivalent because there's no babies in SCAF forces to be affected
