From what I've heard they were "good" at two things: murdering children en masse, and dying in droves against actual soldiers.

Their head honcho was infamous not only for copious amounts of war crimes against civilians during WWII (murder, rape, torture, looting, you name it), but also for raping two girls between his service for the Second and Third Reich (because of that, he almost was refused to join the military, but friends in high places got him out of jail and back into the military).
