Their weekly get-together over tea had started normally enough, Zelda and Peach with their usual blends and Samus with whichever exotic brew she had deemed worth a try. The conversation was pleasant, focused on sporting events in their own worlds and how the Smash Tournament compared. Peach had to explain the practice of Cheerleading to her companions, and Samus was intrigued.

It took some convincing, but the Bounty Hunter managed to get the Princesses to give it a try with her, citing their distance from home and how unlikely it would be that the three of them would have a chance to try such a thing again. After a week of practicing and getting their uniforms right, they debuted to an enthusiastic crowd response.

The response did not go unnoticed by the tournament's Organizers. Always looking for ways to increase the popularity of the competition, they thought up the 'Damsel-in-Distress' mode, a race between contestants to rescue their Damsels first. The idea proved popular with the crowd, and the Organizers knew exactly who they wanted for their damsels.

Zelda and Peach were quite put-off by the new arrangements: the Smash Tournament had been a welcome break from being kidnapped and bound on a semi-regular basis. As the three waited backstage, bound and gagged, Samus could only mumble a sheepish apology while they waited to be brought to their stations.
