final fantasy vii

The seventh JRPG developed by Squaresoft (now Square Enix) in the Final Fantasy series. First released on the Sony PlayStation in 31 January 1997, and then re-released for personal computers in 1998.

The story is about Avalanche, an ecoterrorist organization combating the conglomerate Shinra Electric Power Company which is destroying the world's ecosystem by extracting mako for electricity. One of their latest recruits is acerbic mercenary Cloud Strife, himself a former member of SOLDIER, Shinra's mako-enhanced supersoldier corps. Soon, however, Avalanche would face an even greater enemy in the form of Sephiroth, another former SOLDIER intent on absorbing the planet's power and becoming a god.

Its success led to a multimedia subseries called the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, and a remake trilogy comprising Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020), Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (2024), and Final Fantasy VII Revelation (2027).
