For extra fun it could have been done as a reference to Aliens with Hicks teaching Ripley how to use the Pulse Rifle.

Someone woke up one day and goes "hey, I want to see a Disney princess with Doomguy". And thus this magnificent piece was born after commissioning the artist of course.

Well, they're both colonial marines (well, Doomguy was at one point, I'm not sure if that's still part of his canon.)
That's totally what this looks like it was inspired by, though.
