Well, it was meant to be an assualt rifle... for power-armor troops. So basically because power-armor made people into seven-foot-tall walking tanks their guns are also... sizable.

Yeah, I know what you mean, the point is that they use LMG/SAWs as their assault rifle, and I'm pretty sure their "heavy" weaponry is somewhere along the lines of that 50-lb rotary rocket/missile launcher and other rotary cannons more befitting on a helo than on the ground. Like the minigun and gatling laser.
