The problem is once you start giving leeway, it opens the the door to a whole swarm of less capable creative talents shrieking that their OCs and ideas should be officially elevated next, now that a precedent has been set. It sets unrealistic expectations that would eventually just send the creator into a breakdown.

Ultimately, I think rare is the case where a creative work can be democratised halfway through its life. It either stays a private industry or is set as public from the get go.

The only real way forward in some fantasy timeline is if vanripper had the energy to set up a secondary creative work to let the fans loose in there. Though this is still hardly ideal, but merely just one step "more canon", but never satisfactorily "canon enough".

Reminder that vanripper literally made Helltaker to entice people to draw more demon girls in suits, "keeping the author's creative vision" isn't a thing here
