What confuses me is that the artist comments on it being a straight pairing, but seem to contradict himself when he adds the trans colours.

It's still a straight pairing if they're both trans. Sexual preference and gender identity are not the same thing.

Other way around.

It's a dig at the concept of "straight pride" (championed by anti-LGBT people) by putting two trans characters in a straight ship.

(also, in the case of Bridget, there's no headcanon, the game makes it very clear that she's trans. It's more iffy in the case of Yamato)

Those aren't meant to be the trans colors. The pink is for girl, the blue for boy.
