I don't play overwatch I admit, but Ashes motivations seem really odd to me. She's a beautiful girl who came from a wealthy family, but because mommy and daddy didn't spend enough time with her, she turned to a life of violence and crime? Did she get a younger sibling who did get all of mommy and daddy's attention, did they get the inheritance as well? It does not make sense. If her reasoning for a life of crime and violence is, "Mommy and Daddy didn't love me enough." what is the measuring stick she used? Why didn't she love Bob like a loving child would love a parent? Bob raised her, and cared for her, wouldn't that constitute the same attachment and sentiment as being loved?

I see it as more that her parents cared so little of her that she imprinted on Bob as a parental figure in order to keep from breaking down. Her life of violence is more a way of controlling her own life considering she was bred to be just like her parents. Since she can't stand them she's doing the antithesis of what they expected of her by being a criminal; considering that criminals steal money and property as opposed to acquiring it like her parents. You could say she hasn't really grown up and is acting out in order to stick it too them. Truth be told she's never seemed to be all that bad, more of the destructive type than a true blue villain. She wants to break things and make a lot of noise but deep down she just a kid acting out because her parents were practically ignorant of her existence.

I guess that could be the case, I was just never the one to accept willful ignorance as an excuse, "I will do bad things because I think it'll make those who care or should care about me regret not caring about me." O_o?

...That's actually one of the reason street gangs remain a major local power in 3rd world countries.

It's not all about scraping by or just making a ruckus because you can. It's basically a way for them to "rebel against the adults" by doing the opposite of what they perceive as their parents' expectations while at the same time using crime and violence as a way to let out the pent up stress and seek approval from their own peers.

I've seen kids go down the road of no return, because they feel they've been neglected even though they've been good, or even punished by their supposed parent for even the slightest hint of disobedience, even if it wasn't even their fault. (This part is just personal opinion.)

Hate is just the flip side of love. If they truly didn't care about their neglectful parents, they would simply just disappear from their life and start their own anew. The fact they're acting out rebelliously is also a sign of attention seeking, wishing that their parents get their shit together and actually do what they (the parent) needs to do to put them (the rebelling kid) back on the right track.

(Mind you, this is just off the top of my head after having to proofread my mom's thesis for her master's degree in young adult counseling. I'm sure to be missing some important key notes, so take it with a grain of salt.)
